How to check
- 1Clean the screen with a soft cloth so dust is not mistaken for a fault.
- 2On each full-screen colour, scan the whole display slowly.
- 3Note the position of any point that stays a different colour or stays lit.
Check as soon as you buy — returns and exchanges depend on it.
A dead pixel is invisible against ordinary content and obvious against a solid colour. Run through the full-screen colours before a return window closes — that is the only time a manufacturer will do anything about it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a dead and a stuck pixel?
A dead pixel gets no power and stays black on every colour. A stuck pixel is permanently lit in one colour — it shows on some screens and not others. Stuck pixels occasionally recover; dead ones do not.
Can a stuck pixel be fixed?
Sometimes. Rapidly cycling colours over the area, or gentle pressure with a soft cloth through the screen off, occasionally frees it. Neither is reliable, and pressing too hard makes things worse.
Will the manufacturer replace a screen with dead pixels?
Only above their threshold, which is often three to five faulty pixels. A single one usually does not qualify — which is why testing during the return window matters more than the warranty.
How do I tell dust from a dead pixel?
Dust sits on the surface and moves when wiped; it is also visible against every colour including white. A dead pixel is inside the panel and never moves.
