Clicks are scheduled against the audio clock, so the beat never drifts.

Playing along to a metronome is the fastest way to find out that your timing drifts. This schedules each click against the audio clock rather than a JavaScript timer, so it stays accurate over long practice sessions.

How to use

  1. 1 Set the tempo, or tap the button in time to find it.
  2. 2 Choose the time signature.
  3. 3 Turn on the accent to hear the downbeat.
  4. 4 Press start.

Frequently asked questions

What tempo should I practise at?

Slow enough to play the passage cleanly every time. Raise it in increments of five once you can. Practising a difficult passage too fast rehearses the mistakes.

How does tap tempo work?

Tap the button in time with music and it averages the intervals. Four or more taps gives a usable reading — it is the quickest way to find the BPM of a recording.

Does the beat drift over time?

No. Clicks are scheduled ahead against the Web Audio clock, which is sample-accurate. A metronome built on setInterval drifts noticeably within a couple of minutes.
